In his latest report on the PENTAX K-3 Mark III, project manager Shigeru Wakashiro goes into detail about the control of the new camera. As was previously the case with the PENTAX K-1, and later with the PENTAX KP, the "Smart Function" plays an important role and has been completely revised for the PENTAX K-3 Mark III.
As before, the function is preselected using the "Smart Function" dial (1) and then the function is adjusted accordingly using the function dial (2). While the PENTAX KP still has three functions that can be individually programmed on the "Smart Function" dial, the PENTAX K-3 Mark III has up to 22 functions that can be assigned to 5 different positions. For this, the camera no longer needs to be taken out of sight because these functions are controlled in the viewfinder by pressing the S.Fn button. This allows the photographer an intuitive operation that can be customised to meet changing requirements.
